Small Business Notes is dedicated to the memory of Richard C. "Dick" Kautz. Dick, his father, Carl, and his father-in-law, Simon G. "Si" Stein, spent their lives running quality businesses that served their community well and provided a outstanding work environment for their employees. It is businessmen like them that are the strength of our country.
This site provides information and resources for other businesses struggling to provide that same quality in a challenging economic environment. In a world where making a fast buck often seems more important than quality, running a profitable business that values their employees and customers can be a challenge. There are companies doing it, however. Dick, Carl, and Si did it during a depression. Their legacy is continued here by providing information to help others carry on that tradition.
Site Philosophy
Small Business owners are those individuals
who are the explorers and pioneers of the business community.
They break new ground and find new approaches to challenges. No
two days are alike. It takes flexibility, imagination and a sense
of fun, but for those of us who love to be where the action is,
this is an exciting place to be!
Small businesses are the lifeblood of the world economy. They provide jobs, goods, services and the flow of money that keeps the marketplace alive and well.
Small businesses are also busy, labor-intensive places. Few have the luxury of having separate departments for the various functions of the business. Instead, each owner and many employees often wear many hats. Their expertise covers a broad spectrum of tasks.
While for many small business owners this is part of the "fun" of running a small business, it can also be challenging when a depth of knowledge is needed to deal with something new that comes along.
And, that is where this site steps to the fore. Our purpose is to provide the resources for all the information that a small business person needs to operate their business. Consider this site the magic box that you can go to find answers to your questions, from the most basic to the most complex.
