Comment: bwtech@UMBC is a 41-acre research and technology community being developed by the
international commercial real estate firm Grosvenor in collaboration with the University of
Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). bwtech@UMBC has a total development capacity of up to
330,000 square feet of office and laboratory space. The park will ultimately comprise five
new state-of-the-art buildings occupied by research and technology firms. The firms have
access to university expertise, students, technology, programs and facilities. In 2001,
Grosvenor delivered the 62,000 square foot three-story building at 5521 Research Park
Drive, now fully occupied b RWD Technologies. A second building, with three stories and
60,000 square feet of Class A space at 5523 Research Park Drive, is under construction
for delivery in mid-2004.

Comment: The Emerging Technology Centers (ETC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation,
chartered by the City of Baltimore whose mission is to act as a catalyst in the
creation and growth of start-up and early-stage technology companies. By bringing
new technology companies into existence and assisting in the transfer of technology
from area universities and Federal labs, ETC hopes to close the gap in venture
creation in Baltimore and help the City keep pace with the rest of the nation in
the job growth and economic development. Program services like mentoring and
coaching are provided by a combination of in-house staff, volunteer members of
the Baltimore business community and outside service providers.

and emerging companies. techcenter@UMBC houses UMBC's tech incubator and is home
to 15 start-up and 10 emerging high-tech and biomedical companies. techcenter@UMBC
has graduated 28 incubator companies and has accommodated 85 tenants since its
