Organizing a Small Business

Your business plan states the objectives for your business. Your next step is to figure out how you are going to accomplish those objectives. Without organization timelines are not going to be met and goals will not be accomplished. Organization needs to happen on both a macro- and a micro-level; i.e., the macro-level is how you structure the business itself, the micro-level is how you run the business on a daily basis.

An organization chart is a good to thing to have even for one person organizations, as silly as that might sound. A good organization chart details the processes that need to occur to produce the product or service for your business. It is a good visual way to see the overview of your business on a macro-level.

Another important part of organizing is having a good time management system. Small business owners always have too much to do. Time management is a critical to literally keeping sane. Set yourself up with a system you can live with and live it.

On the micro-level there are a lot of little things you can do to make the business function effectively. Here are some simple how-tos that will help you organize better on a day-to-day basis.
